Your Acting Resume 101 - What to put on and leave off

Hi All.  Here’s another recent post from Sean Pratt.  Let me know your feedback!

Beginning actors, as well as those re-starting their careers, have some particular issues surrounding the creation of their resume.

Organizing your resume can be daunting, but for actors new to the Biz, or those coming back after a substantial break, there are two distinct issues to be dealt with.  The “newbie” must decide what information to put on the resume that seems appropriate, while the returning veteran must pick and choose what’s still relevant.  In each case, there’s sure to be some tough choices, so you need to have a yardstick to by.  One approach is to use this as your main guideline, “A great resume not only tells the reader what you’ve done, but what your type is and where you’re going with your career.”

05/25/09 SEAN PRATT PRESENTS HIS WEEKLY ARTICLE ON THE BUSINESS OF THE BIZ

The Magic of Charm – One of the Necessary Qualities of a Successful Actor

Though it is often maligned and misunderstood, don’t underestimate the power of charm.

It seems that the notion of being charming has fallen into disfavor as of late.  Too many people equate charm with being smarmy, disingenuous or manipulative, which is unfortunate. It can be argued that this quality of being pleasing or attractive through one’s personality is an important ingredient in an actor’s good fortune.  It takes the three essentials of being a successful actor – talent, type and tenacity – and gives them that extra spark or power to attract people and situations that end up working to their benefit.
