“New” SAG Agreement is 53% Weak, 100% Unchanged

The “new” SAG Agreement with AMPTP should be going out in the mail this week or next to members for approval.  53% of SAG’s Board approved, 46% didn’t.  Those percentages represent the two factions within SAG; one moderate, the other not.  From what we’ve seen, this “new” Agreement is in essence the same “last, best and final” offer that AMPTP has been holding on since this escapade began, and is the same Agreement AFTRA, DGA, and the WGA got.

So, continue to see more non-union and made for Internet project popping up, as the incentive for producers of all types to do so is certainly there.  It will be interesting to see the actual details regarding “new media” pay plans.  The only good that has come of this is that SAG did manage to get themselves back in line with the other guilds for future contract dates, which will be 2011.

A union divided equals weakness.

SAG – We’re on a road to nowhere – Elephant in the room video

This is a great little video by John Cygan and will help to explain what is happening to SAG and what the future may look like.  Bottom line is ‘webisodes’ are ramping up quickly.  One could see these webisodes as a new and cheaper way to explore pilots and such.  If that’s the case, actors are in for a long rough road ahead.
