What not to do in auditions by Sean Pratt

Actor’s Etiquette 102 – Do’s and Don’ts In the Audition Room

Whether you’re walking onto the stage or into someone’s office, your behavior while auditioning will have a definite impact on your chances for success.

It continues to astound directors, agents and casting directors, etc., how actors behave, or rather misbehave, during the audition or interview. Some of the actor’s mistakes can be chalked up to naiveté or nervousness but others can only be the result of carelessness, a bad attitude or worse, a hidden desire to take out their frustrations on the “powers that be.” Take a moment to look over these tips on the do’s and don’ts of audition etiquette.

Beginning actors, as well as those re-starting their careers, have some particular issues surrounding the creation of their resume.

Organizing your resume can be daunting, but for actors new to the Biz, or those coming back after a substantial break, there are two distinct issues to be dealt with.  The “newbie” must decide what information to put on the resume that seems appropriate, while the returning veteran must pick and choose what’s still relevant.  In each case, there’s sure to be some tough choices, so you need to have a yardstick to by.  One approach is to use this as your main guideline, “A great resume not only tells the reader what you’ve done, but what your type is and where you’re going with your career.”
